Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony

Bintulu

The Bandar Bintulu Branch of SDNU is organizing a Gawai Dayak Celebration tonight (9th May) in Bintulu.

Sibu

The SDNU Rejang Branch has organized an “Office Bearers Installation Night” in Sibu tonight (9th May). Due to prior commitment to attend Gawai Dinner in Bintulu, SDNU President Mr. Mengga Mikui will not be attending the Rejang Branch Installation night.

However, in his place, a Supreme Executive Council Lawyer Chambai will be representing SDNU HQ at the installation night.

SDNU Gawai Dayak Dinner in Kuching

The Gawai Dayak dinner in Kuching will be held on 16th May at the Christian Multi-centre. The theme or the dinner is “Unity through Culture”. A special cultural programme has been arranged with participation from our friends in Kalimantan. It will truly be a Dayak Cultural Night – but without Kumang and Keling Gawai.

It is expected that our Kadazan Dusun friends from Sabah will also be coming both to attend the dinner and contribute their performance towards the cultural events.

Tickets

For Kuching Gawai – a hundred tables (100) has been planned. The latest status is only 20 tables are available. Meaning 80 tables has been sold out. All the $700 and $600 tables has been sold out. The remaining tables are priced at $500 and $450 respectively.

Those interested to get a table will need to contact the  SDNU Executive Secretary Mr. Spencer Birai – Hp number 0138080433.

As the Gawai Dayak season is approaching – I would like to take this opportunity to wish every one in Dayakbaru SELAMAT GAWAI DAYAK GAYU GURU GERAI NYAMAI SERTA LANTANG SENANG NGUAN MENOA.

SDNU-MADN Visit Bring New Hope & Initiative: Dayak Cross Cultural Training

January 11th, 2009

Written by gkm2020

What Have Dayak Borneo SDNU-MADN Visit Benefit Us?

The visit had directly and indirectly benefited both SDNU and MADN, and the Dayak Borneo communities in general i.e. to promote, stimulate and undertake to develop Dayak Cross Cultural Training, foster unity among the Dayaks and open up new business avenue(s).

What Is Cross Cultural?

Cross Cultural refer to differences can and do impede upon communication and interpersonal relationships. In the both politic or geopolitics and business world this occurs daily, where people from different cultures interact and are expected to perform and make decisions. The Visit has brought us some ideas to develop Dayak Cross Cultural Training (DCCT) as part of the initiative to enhance our Dayak Cultural Capital.

Why Dayak Cross Cultural Training?

DCCT aims to develop awareness between people where a common cultural framework does not exist in order to promote clear lines of communication, collaboration, cooperation, in-support and better relationships.

DCCT has many benefits to be gained by both participants and business communities. If we were to pursue this initiative, participants in DCCT would likely to achieve from these eleven (11) main benefits: Read more…

Updating SDNU’s Initiative

January 11th, 2009

Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony

Introduction

on 18th Oct 2008 night Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS), the women wing of Sarawak Dayak National Union is having an annual dinner in Sibu Civic Centre. The SIDS Chairpeerson is YB Senator Datuk Empiang Jabu and by virtue of being the Women’s Wing Chairman, she is an automatic Vice President in SDNU. The other automatic Vice President is the Dayak Youth Wing with Dr. Dusit as its Acting Chairman.

It is important to note that all must become SDNU member first before they could joined SIDS or its Youth Wing. SDNU/SIDS and the Youth Wing must work closely together to ensure success in implementing its various initiatives. Read more…

Can we make Dayak’s Non Governmental Organization to work as one?

January 11th, 2009

Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony

This is an individual perspective on “Can we make Dayak’s NGO to work as one?”. This idea stemmed out of an earlier challenge, that is “Can Sarawak Dayak National Union be made as the Umbrella body to all Dayak Organization?”.

Why is this an important step forward to the Dayak?
The ever changing political environment, opportunities and challenges is a fact of life that the Dayak must accept. This idea of getting all Dayak NGO to work as one is to challenge the current paradigm that Dayak ethnic group is pursuing separate and specific goals but is not driving the Dayak to a greater political progress and economic achievement. Rumah Dayak Jalan Satok

January 11th, 2009

Written by Dr. John Brian Anthony

Many Dayakbaru members mentioned about the SDNU handling of Rumah Dayak in Satok, and the failure for the building to be completed till today. Many has even “associate” the failure to complete the building with Dayak inability to do anything well. That is the mentality and level of thinking we have to deal with today.

I must say, all are said for good purpose and intention to improve ourselves. But some say it in the spirit that Dayak are not capable of moving forward. So Dayak better surrender their future and live in the hand of other races in Sarawak. To some of us, Dayak are hopeless people. Is it so?

To help better understand the issue Dayakbaru would benefit from the following update.

A bit of History

An agreement was signed by SDNU and the property developer in 1997 (Crystal Realty) giving the developer 80% of the property and SDNU received 20% upon completion. The President then was Dato Seri Daniel Tajem and the Secretary General is Sidi Munan. Read more…
